NX 12 Deselection 1

So one of the new things in NX 12 is when you have multiple objects (components, edges, faces, etc.) selected, you can deselect all of them by single clicking anywhere in the background. Initially this seems like an improvement over having to press the escape button, but I have changed my opinion. It is possible to deselect everything while in the middle of a function. Perhaps I'm doing an Edit Object Display to change the color of a bunch of faces to red for some reason. I may be 100 faces into my selection and I mis-click in the background and my faces are all deselected. Is there a way to disable this way of deselection? I've looked through and searched the Customer Defaults, gone through the preferences, and googled it, but no luck.
