Hi
I am looking for a M8 nut that has half a hex body (about 13mm) and half a small diameter (11mm ish) round.
Can anyone tell me 1. what is this type of nut called, 2. who sells/makes them.
Thanks

Acorn nut. unless the round portion has a nylon insert, then its a nylock nut.

Thanks NickE, I should have said cylinder instead of round with the treaded hole being thru.
Below is an asci "cross section"

M8 X 1 thru

is it a type of insert nut? IE: the 11mm portion goes into a tight fit hole, the hex is used for tightening. Does the thread change at any point in the length. I know Ive seen nuts like this before, maybe in electronics for standing off of PC boards.

Hmmmmm..... I'll sleep on this one an catch you back tomorrow....

This is to bolt a product that we make to a Product/stud we do not make. The studs use to be longer and we had the room to use a standard nut. Now we can only engage 2-3 threads so we need this design to engage a reasonable number of threads. I can change the OD of the piece that the nut goes through. I am trying to avoid designing and having this part made.
Cheers

I think you best bet would be to get a M8 coupling nut of the appropriate length and turn down one end to your desired dia. You are going to have a very thin wall nut that will not take much load.
As stated I’ve seen this type nut in smaller diameters mostly without hex heads. I have seen a very similar nut made, but with a much longer column. It was more like a sex bolt and nut.
I’ll still ask around to see if someone has this design on the shelf.

How many do you need?

What material do you need?

Usage is only about 750 a year, material steel either stainless or clear zinc plated.
