I'm sure (or at least hopeful) there is a simple solution for this. When I set the material for a part it takes on the default color/appearance set for that material. That is great and I usually accept this default. However, often times I'll make the part a different color either because it will be painted or molded that color or just to add contrast in the models. Here is the nuisance issue: whenever I add a new configuration of that part it takes on the default color of the base material and does not carry over the color of the configuration it is made from.

Oddly enough, when adding the new configuration there is an Advanced Options box at the bottom with a check box for "Use configuration specific color". Whether this box is checked or not the new configuration does not assume the color of the configuration it is made from.

The easiest way I have found to make this new configuration have the exact same color properties is to go back to the original colored config, then to the FeatureManager Design Tree, then go to Appearances and then close out of Appearances. This apparently resets the color properties of the base configuration to all of the configs as I want them to be. Then I have to go to ConfigurationManager and select my new config again and it will be the correct color.

Since one configuration is made from another and assumes all its "physical" characteristics I am wondering why color isn't one of them and I have to go through this rigamaroll.

So, what's the simple solution?

Thanks in advance,

You could use the Design Table to set the colors for the different configurations

You could save your special color \ material and reuse it per config as needed. I made a Candy apple green using the Candy apple red in PV360. I simply saved it off to my own custom material database.
