Experts,

Can anyone tell me where I can find the normalizing temperature required for SA-516 Gr. 70 plate?

I don't see anything in the SA-516 specification or the SA-20 specification.

Is this determined by the steel manufacturer?

Thanks,

im not 100% but i think it is 1600 to 1650 deg.

According to a document I have from Bethlehem Steel, typically 1650F - 1700F.

Normalization heat treatment of SA 516 Grade 70 is heating to 1650 deg F to 1700 deg F in temperature and holding for some period of time to fully austenitize before air cooling or assisted liquid cooling. Where did this temperature range originate? ASM Handbook on Heat Treating or other heat treatment reference material.

Thanks for the information. I'll check out the ASM Handbook on Heat Treating.
