Dear Experts,

I'm designing a pig launcher according to ASME B31.8 which the conical section is not standard and B31.8 don't address any calculations for this component. So, how thickness will be calculated?

Mans1987,
Part of what you wrote, "the conical section is not standard" and I wonder why not?
What size is the large section and what size in the pipeline?
Why aren't you purchasing an "Off-The-Shelf" Reducer that matches your Pipeline wall thickness?

Sometimes its possible to do all the right things and still get bad results

If you're using non standard piping components then you go down the design route as noted.

I've seen company standards where conical items are pre designed, but without them you need to do a pressure vessel design or a non standard piping design to b31.3.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Most likely we will design it as a pressure vessel. Thank you for your replies
