Noise on the automotive exhaust system

I am having an acoustics problem with an automotive exhausts system. Noise is caused by the friction between two parts of the system (not by the exhausts gas flow).
I suppose that I’ll have good results if I reduce the tube’s diameter keeping the actual thickness.

Could anyone comment my supposition?

Thanks so much.

Hi,

What are those parts? Can you give an bit detailed definition?

Hi vozgul,

A stainless steel mesh joint links two tubes. Friction of a tube (unalloyed steel) related to this joint causes noise on the tube.

In thread384-64054, MAUI says: “Materials that are most effective at transmitting heat would also be appropriate for this application.”

So, could I affirm that noise will be reduced if I apply a stainless steel instead of unalloyed steel?

Thank you.

Always learning,
