I am trying to determine if the following to topics can be considered one in the same.

nil ductility temperature (NDT) vs Minimum Design Metal Temperature (MDMT)

My materials are High Tensile Strenght, Low Alloy:
ASTM SA-225 Grade C
ASTM SA-336 (modified)

I am pretty sure that nil ductility temperature refers to the temperature in a material when matter/atoms cease to exhibit kinetic energy/motion.

I have test data for a project that I am currently working on and I would like to make the conclusion that I can equate my MDMT to my test data NDT.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Gart

The nil ductility temperature (NDT) does not represent or equate to the minimum design metal temperature (MDMT). The MDMT is described in ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and is based on component thickness and metal temperature. The MDMT will be above the NDT.

The nil ductility temperature is where the material exhibits ductile to brittle fracture behavior as established by impact testing or drop weight tear testing.

How did you interpret that in NDT condition atoms are at rest i.e zero entropy!!

NDT simply states the transition from ductile to brittle fracture as determined by impact test or DWT and cannot be so simplistically defined at atomic level.
