DEar All...

There is a flange to be welded to a 2" pipe ...
Pipe end was beveled (preparation prior to welding), normally what NDT is performed - (if is performed) on beveled end prior to welding?

Thank you

Is this a repair job where there used to be a known flaw in the pipe? That's one instance where some form of NDT might be warranted before welding.

You can do liquid penetrant testing if you feel so inclined to. However, you would have to weigh if doing it makes sense in the first place to begin with or what sort of defects you are trying to see.

Dear All,

Actually this is the complete picture - The wrong flange was welded to a pipe.... the flange was cut.... pipe end was beveled and new flange to be welded.... therefore in such situation if any NDT is either commonly employed or specified by any construction code ?

Thank you very much

Visual examination, always.

You could do PT (liquid dye penetrant) NDE on the bevel prep end of the pipe that has been cut & re-beveled if you're concerned about any surface flaws. Not required though. If this is all new carbon steel pipe, I doubt you'll have any issues

People can get concerned about the HAZ, but normally so long as you don't do about three welds on the same bit of pipe you should be OK. But r6155 and kraken are correct.

Visual examination of the fit-up between the flange and the pipe is required prior to welding.
After welding, you may go for LPI / UT / MT / RT depending on the existing quality system.
