I am having problems switching between open documents in SW 2008. I normally go to "window" in the main menu (file - edit - view - insert - etc) and select the document I would like to show. Most times this brings up the wrong document, and sometimes it will bring up a file that I didnt even have open!
One way around this that I have found is to "browse open documents" which is also under the "window" tab, or you can hit Ctrl-Tab.
I dont remember having this problem with 2007, has anyone come across this or know any fixes?

Have you tried the File Explorer > Recent Documents in the Task Pane section? (RH side of screen)

I had that problem for a while as well. Most of the time it only occurred when I selected "More Windows...". I fixed it by writing a document manager macro. Give this a look. It has quite few features, such as showing which files need saving, sorting files into alphabetical order, grouping by type, etc.

You can also bring up the Open dialog with the appropriate filter for types by clicking on the Part, Drawing, or Assembly icon right above the list box. It auto-collapses to get out of your way, but reappears with a mouseover.

I posted this previously some time ago, but have added many functions since.

You may notice that there is some text saying that no license string is present. That is for some additional capability that gives an indication of how many changes have been made since the last save. That capability is only possible using swDocMgr.dll, which needs a license key string from SolidWorks API support. It is supposed to be distributed only inside your own company, so I can't include it with this macro.

How and who do I ask for a licence key for swDocMgr.dll? I get an error saying "Can't find project or library"

You may need to go to Tools->References in the VBA editor and change the (probably missing) swDocumentMgr reference to the year you have installed. If swDocumentMgr is not present in the list, you may have to browse for it. It should be in C:\Program Files\Common Files\SolidWorks Shared. (Sorry for my previous post listing it as swDocMgr).

The license key string is not necessary for the macro to run. If you get the reference fixed it should work. If you want that one additional function, the only way to get a license key string is to send an email to apisupport@solidworks.com.

SW08-SP4 is supposed to fix the "wrong document" problem.

It has been reported that XP-SP3 also corrects the problem.

As CBL has posted in the Windows XP SP3 thread, supposedly this problem has been fixed:

It may be too early say it's fixed but since I upgraded Windows XP Pro X32 to SP3.0 this morning I haven't seen this problem. Previously it was there all day as long as I had a few files open. I know SW said this was actually a Windows based problem. Lets hope.

Under the "Window" menu in SW it should list all files that are open.

Ctopher, what some of us are having problems with is that if we have several models open and we try to pick one of the models from the "Window" menu, the wrong model opens.

Sorry, I see.
So far I have not seen this problem. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist for me though. ;)
