Hi All,

I'm currently updating an ETAP model and I wanted to standardize all protection relays. They are mostly IED's consisting of multifunction relays, for example, ABB RET, REF, REL, etc.
What might be a suggested naming convention for these relays?

Kind regards,

Jairo

Try naming them for the major function that they provide. I.e. 51, 87, 50, etc.
From their use a number that corresponds with a bay or line up, or breaker number, like 521, or 551, or 115WE2-21.

Every company has their own naming convention, so it might be better to find out what is existing at your company, or use the guide for RUS (I believe).

IEEE offers some suggestions in their guide.

We ended naming them MF1, MF2, etc. Switching from the vendor specific model to a generic name has made some tasks simpler and other much harder.

I use a reference to the line # on the schematic.
