Dear members,

In the project piping material specification, the client indicated "NACE RP0391" in item descriptions.

However my understanding is that once the material is selected by NACE RP0391, "NACE RP0391" does not have to be indicated in item descriptions to be given to manufacturer.

For example,

"ASTM A106 Gr.B" and "ASTM A106 Gr.B + NACE RP0391" are same to pipe manufacturers because there is no requirement in NACE RP0391 for pipe manufacturer to apply.

Is my understanding correct?

It depends on the scope of your work.

If you are working for the piping construction including spool manufacturing (that is, only for mechanical guarantee), you can apply only the fabrication/welding requirements (see Section 2: Specific Materials) in NACE RP0391 unless specified in your client’s P.O. However, if you are in package item supplier (that is, for mechanical/performance guarantee), you may have to consider all of the requirements in NACE RP0391.

Several NACE standards have some fabrication (including welding, heat treatment, hardness, test & inspection, etc.) requirements in the section of Specific Materials.
