Hi

I have an inspection routine to carry out on a cooling tower fan, gearbox and motor combination. The routine mainly concentrates around the gearbox due to a catastrophic failure some time ago. I'm wondering if anyone holds any thoughts on the typical frequency of inspection suitable for this direct cooling tower machinery kit. Unfortunately I have no condition based approach, and am reasonably aware of the long term possibilities, but would be interested on on anyones ideas to mitigate for not doing this inspection now, eg. acoustics or other techniques (?). As you are all probably used to, the impact of taking the tower off now is expensive. The usual inspeciton of the gearbox calls for oil samples and level check + general visual.

Hope you can help here. Thanks in advance.
