Hi All,

We have a project where the existing sidewalk at Bus Bay loading zone exceeds the 2% cross slope for ADA. I need to remove and replace both existing sidewalk and curbs. In order to meet the slope requirements, I have to adjust the curb height by one inch to to meet the slope requirements.

However, the existing curb was monolithically poured with the existing concrete bus pad. What is the possible solution to this without removing an entire concrete bus pad to minimize the cost?

sawcut the curb out, grind the area smooth. drill and epoxy in dowels and pour your new curb.

Thanks jayrod!

Will the dowels prevent the bus pad and new curb from separation or uplifting from each other?

Is the sidewalk portion violating the 2% Xslope? If yes just replace that. My understanding is that the ramp portion down to the pad can be as great as 8% (12:1).

If you have the dowels hooked into the curb I would think they would help stop the curb and pad from separating. Otherwise what would be the point??
