Modelling BSPT in SE... 2

Hi,

I'm modelling a plug with a BSPT thread and I have a few questions. I've looked in Kempe's and on the internet for the answers, but so far I've not found any...

1. As BSPT has a taper of 1 in 16... is this, if you are looking at a cross-section, each side or inclusive?

2. In SE you have to specify the taper angle as soon a you enter the Thread command. As these threads are based on the values in the PipeThreads.txt, why is the value of the taper not contained within this file, it is after all a standard?

Hi M,
According to The taper is on diameter.
ie. 1mm reduction in diameter for every 16mm of thread length.
This equates to 1.79° or 1°17'24"
Yes I agree, you should only need to pick the thread size and the taper should be set.
As the thread needs to be applied to a cylindrical protrusion, it might be possible for you to create a set of threaded cylinders and save them in a feature library.
I started doing it for tapped holes, counterbored holes etc. to ensure they were always modelled in a consistent way.
Then you just drag the feature onto your part.
