I am new to Ansys (I am reasonably experienced in Abaqus and general FEA) and I am still trying to find my around the manuals.

I am interested in Mode Superposition Analysis. The manual (section 3.9.6.3 Mode Selection Based on the Mode Coefficients) talks about modes selection based on significance level of a mode which is equal to the mode coefficient divided by the maximum mode coefficient. I believe that the mode coefficient is a function of a participating factor, spectral acceleration and the model frequency. However, I could not find any reference or a justification for adopting this approach rather than one of the other methods mentioned in section 3.9.6.

Any help or a pointer to further reading would be really appreciated.
