Any problem having different SS alloys in contact in a damp saltwater environment? Specifically, I'd like to put a 316 collar on a 431 propshaft - but I won't do so if the different alloys could lead to galvanic corrosion.
The problem that i see is the corrosion resistance of the 431 in contact with seawater. it has approx the same resistnace of SS 304.
"Reasonable resistance to salt water in cold southern waters but less resistant than Grade 316 in tropical waters. Overall the corrosion resistance of 431 is approximately the same as or slightly below that of grade 304.
