I have a 1" thk horizontal base ring (sitting on the ground) that will support & anchor a 35' OD stack. The base ring has 1" thk vertical gussets to be attached.

My question is what is the minimum fillet weld size required to attach the gussets to the base plate resulting in a basic T-joint configuration.

I have been directed to Table 5.8 that reflects a minimum 5/16" fillet weld size althought this seems undersized for a minimum.

Appreciate your comments and advice,
Robert

Table 5.8, minimum fillet welds do not reflect a comparison to material strength or force transfer. The minimums are intended to provide adequate fusion. You are probably correct, if 1" gussets are required for the forces, then adequate fillet weld sizes should be designed.

Thank you connectegr. Do you perchance have the 2010 edition of AWS D1.1? I need the para 2.4.2.8.

Thanks in advance,
Robert
