When was Microstation first introducted to the market? I used it in college during the mid 90's to do mechanical design work. At that time it was with Intergraph and later changed to Bentley. Who orginally developed the software? I read that Intergraph developed Solid Edge and later sold it to Unigraghics. I was wondering if the same team developed Microstation too.

I know Microstation has gotten away from the mechanical design side of things. I miss using it. It's a great program and surely beats using AutoCAD any day.

Microstation was first seen in market around late 80s. It was owned and marketed by Intergraph. Bentley was a small software development centre where Microstation was being written.

After success of MS, Bentley decided (around '95) to market and own the software themselves. I believe, they paid royalties to Intergraph, as .dgn file format is still an Intergraph copyright.

Ciao.
