I have a 12' x 12' mat slab supporting a (2) story masonry enclosure. The geotechnical report calls for the use of micropiles. I have determined the number of micropiles and where they will need to be placed.
The micropiles will be located directly beneath a wall, all the way around the 14' x 12' mat. The piles are at least 18" from the edge of the slab. I have checked the piles for punching thru the mat, and for the load that is on them, they're good. I completed the punching shear analysis including edge distances.
The question I have is one of good rebar detailing. Do you guys typically add 180 degree hooked bars directly over the micropile just for confinement at that exact location? While I have not calculation nor code requirement that I can find requiring it, I'm feeling as though I should add a small mat of 180 degree hooked bars here....maybe (4) in each direction, right over each pile....just a gut feeling.
Can anyone render an opinion on that? Do you guys do that when the pile is so close to the edge of the slab? I've attached two sketches to illustrate what I am describing.
