Just curious; I'd like to hear some opinions and support if possible.

Would you say metals are
-more
-less
-equally
prone to oxidiation while under stress?

yes, no, it depends !

intuitively stress adds to the internal energy of the part, which should make it more suspectible to corrosion.

stress corrosion cracking (i think) determines the tenile stress that can be applied within (significantly? detectably??) increaseing the rate of corrosion.

IMHO

One of the classic pictorial references in one of the materials engineering texts shows a bent nail immersed in water and it is indicated that the stressed area of the bend will corrode at a higher rate than the rest of the nail. But others have argued that the observed diffence is due to the elongated grains in the bend, creating more anode area than in the unbent portion. So,yes, it will be interesting to see what some of the others come up with.

Since this is such a broad question to answer, I will give you my general answer;

In general under tensile stress, more

I think if you were to broaden your question even further, and re-word "prone to degradation...", I wonder if you would likely find far more than "metals" potentially affected?

Generally yes, is a safe bet.Total energy in the stressed piece is the sum of its own free energy (in the normal state) + the energy due to application of external force.

This higher level of energy in the solid tends to make it prone to faster rate of oxidation .
