Among the Vertical Suspended type pumps,

there are VS1 and VS4 type pumps.

What is the major defference with these two type?

From a ship owner's point of view,

What is more convenient to maintenance?

What pump type have more merit at efficiency, volume, etc?

please tell me the merits and demerits of these two pump types.

Hoping the soonest reply.

If we are on the same page and talking API terms VS 1 is a vertical turbine VS 4 is a vertical pump. Comparing the two is like comparing a full size pick up to a compact. The VS 1 is a more expensive design and is available in sizes that will build over 500 psi. Its design is to build pressure without a significant increase in radial loads. Their curves are generally more flat so the discharge pressure does not fluctuate as much with flow as the VS4. The VS4 by design is to have a sharp drop in its performance curve so as flow increase the pressure will drop. The VS1 makes a better fire pump because you can control the amount of water but maintain the pressure to get it where you want. But if all you want is to empty a sump with a consistent service conditions the VS4 should work fine as long as it is correctly sized.
