I have recently heard of a boiler that operated in Hartford, Conn. using mercury rather than water. Apparently this powered a 10 MW turbine generator. I have been unsuccessful in finding any information regarding this technology-has anyone else heard of this? I am very curious about this and would like to learn more.

I had heard that there was a larger mercury boiler that was operated in the 1950's in the New Jersey Meadowlands, but it was dissassembled a few years after it operated. Also, the ground water contamination had caused "surprisingly" little ecological damage. You may find references to it in "ther proceedings of the American Power conference" or the transactions ASME for the 1950's and early 60's.
