Menu items and dialogs load SLOWLY

I have a copy of ACAD-2006 newly installed on one of our dual-core AMD Opterons, 4Gb RAM, Nvidea 512 GFX...

It runs fine, except that pull-down menu items and related dialogs load SLOWLY.

Any suggestions?
