I get alot of drawings from customers using SolidWorks. I open them in Edrawings to do basic measuring. Sometimes the measure tool is greyed out due to a read only error. How can this be avoided?

Allowing measurement in Edrawings is an option setting that is set at the time that the Edrawing is created. If the option to allow measurement is turned off when your customer created the Edrawing, it will be greyed out when you view it. Ask your customer to be sure that the allow measurement option is turned on when they create their file.

According to eDrawings For Dummies, the measure tool is part of eDrawings Professional. It may be thatsome users (customers) use eDrawings Pro and some don't. I know that we have both seats, and this problem happens to us as well; the SW Pro users allow the engineers to "measure" in eDrawings, the standard SW users can't.
