I have a problem regarding measuring forces for turning cobalt (CoCrMo - ASTM F75) and nickel alloys (Inconel 713LC). From general assumptions, the highest force should be Fc (main cutting force). However, in my measurement, the feed force (Ff) was measured as the highest for almost all variable parameters. The forces in Aisi 1045 steel showed a general assumption where the highest cutting force was Fc, than Ff and Fp. I cannot explain the measurement results for nickel and cobalt alloy. Does anyone have experience with this problem, or any explanation. I am also attaching an example of measurement parameters. Test_1_CoCr: tool holder – PCLNR 2020 K12, insert – CNMG120404MN, CVD TiAlN (main use is for stainless steel, but i took it for test purposes), vc = 21 m/min const. –> tool life over 13 min with ap = 0,5 mm and f = 0,1 mm/rev. There are results for variable depth of cuts (ap) and feeds (f):
