Hi,
I am a graduate process engineer. I am now really confused about the term "Circuit Pressure Drop". I am not sure whether it means the pressure drop between one equipment and its downstream equipment in an oil and gas plant or the total pressure drop of the whole plant.
Could anyone please explain me regarding with my question?
Thanks a lot in advance.

With Regards,

It is probably referring to the total pressure drop around any closed loop pipe "circuit". If the loop, or circuit, had a pump, it would normally mean the pressure at a pump's discharge - the pressure at the same pump's suction.

BI got in first, but I agree. You haven't given us anything to go on, but in many circumstances the pressure drop around a closed circuit is different to the pressure the circuit is maintained at to prevent gas break out or to get to the highest point. Hence e.g. your circuit could be at a minimum pressure of say 10 barg, but the circuit pressure drop is only 1 bar. Therefore your circulation pump only needs to have a differential pressure of 1 bar.

Of course in your company or plant this could be used for something else incorrectly, but has become the standard way of talking about it.

Choose your moment (and the person), but if you're not clear about any term or expression, ask - it's how all of us learned when we first started out. It's always best to do some work yourself first and start off with "Can you help me to understand "xxx", I think/thought it means this, but I'm not sure..."

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Yes, it is the pressure drop around an entire pipe circuit:

If you design a chilled water pipe system, then you have had to calculate the total circuit pressure drop in order to select the pump head.
