How would I calculate the maximum stress in the part shown? I've shown where the load is being applied and what is connected.

You need to start with a free body diagram of the part in order to be clear what loads and reactions are where. Then break the part apart and look at the internal stresses resulting from the FBD analysis. Solving the FBD may give you some insight where to look inside the part.

Do you have access to some Finite Element Analysis software ? I think that this is the only reasonable option here. You don't have to include all parts in the simulation - arm can be replaced with connectors and bearing can be replaced with boundary condition

1) what material ?

2) Can't any material (even papier mache) handle a load of 10 lbs ?

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

It looks like there is a lot more going on than just a downward load of 10lbs.

As drawn there appears to be nothing and no place reacting the applied load.

Thus stress = 0
