As per ASME Scetion I/ Section VIII, is there any limit (Min or Maximum) on the thickness of reinforcing pads one can use?

Thanks,

As far as I know, it just has to be within the limits of reinforcement that are calculated per the code rules.

As far as I know there is no minimum as long as there is adequate reinforcement. The reinforcement doesn't even have to be an added pad - it can be inherent to the material with the opening. For limits regarding the thickness that can be included in calculation:

For Section 1 check out PG-36.3

For Section 8 look at UG-40(d)

TechThrm,
For reinforcing pads the maximum thickness for which you can take allowance for is 1.5 times the pipe/vessel thickness.

Thank you Guys.

DSB123, can you give me the some reference for "reinforcing limit on pad being 1.5*pipe/Vessel thickness".

Thanks,
