Can anyone reference where in which code it references the maximum allowable width of a weld cap. I have heard many things, the most popular being 3 times rod diameter.

Thanks for the info Steve. However, I believe BS stands for British Standard, which we don't typically refer to here in Canada. Are you aware of anywhere API refers to the maximum coverpass width. Thanks.

I can't help with API, but I will suggest that to get your answers faster and more efficiently in the future you clarify which code family you're asking about to begin with. No one knows what country you're in or which industry. I might have assumed you were talking about some AWS code.

My standard answer to "Which code?" is "What does your contract say?" I think (but am not sure) that what you mean to ask about is something more like "I am working to API code XYZ but can't find which paragraph covers what I'm looking for."

Also, I think you may get better results asking your welding questions in the welding forum rather than in the QC forum.

If you do choose to repost any of these questions over there, please post a link to that thread over here and direct people to the new thread so that there aren't parallel discussions.
