Hai all...

yesterday, during a material inspection, i got one spectacle blind for inspection. MTC was available for the spectacle blind and MTC was telling that it is A105 material. But there was no punching or any identification in the spectacle blind. So i recommended for PMI test and Hardness test to verify the material. The PMI report is as follows...

Fe----98.74
Zn----0.075
Mn----0.878

Hardness value observed to be 139-150BHN

Can i accept this material as A105 based on this PMI test?

Surprising, that you have not checked, C and Si values before deciding.

I don't think you can be certain that is is A105 without the C and Si content. Your data does not preclude it from being A105, but I don't believe you can be certain that it actually is A105 without additional information.

This type of question would be better taken to the Materials Engineers area, though, but be mindful of rules regarding double posting. Hope that helps.
