Hi,

When running a simulation with different material orientations in different sections (partitions) of a plate, I get this error message in the .dat file.

elements have incorrect orientation. The third axis should be
in the hoop direction. The elements have been identified in element
set ErrElemIncorrectOrientation.

My input file is as follows (it is only a part of it):

Is there something wrong?

Thanks for your help.

To add on that, I can say that it is a 2D model with CPS4R elements.
Are there issues for affecting material orientations on 2D simulations?

Thanks

In fact, it is not an axisymmetric problem.
It should be a thin plate, that is why Plane stress elements were initially used.
I was wondering if in plane stress or plane strain problems the out of plane component of the stiffness matrix has to be continuous.
In 2D, when a rectangular plate is partionnned in half and two random material orientations (I mean completely different) are applied, it does not work (previous error message).
In 3D, it works fine with the same orientations.

Any explanations?

Thanks
