Hello all:

I would like to know if any of you knows of a resource for the design of a small mat foundation 9'x9' for a heavy safe (70k). The proposed footing would be a mat foundation supporting (4) 8" concrete walls, 8' high. I have a book from my engineering courses, but it lists only mat foundation design for isolated columns, not perimetral walls. Does any know of a reference for such type? Thanks!

You can design the concrete wall as restrained or cantilevered wall with thicker footing section. Then check one way shear, two shear and flexure for the 70kip isolated load for that footing thickness and reinforcement. Most reinforced concrete texts have footing and retaining wall chapters with solved examples.
