Im redoing our masonry typical details and i came across wall intersection requirements (options).

ACI 530-11 1.9.4.2.5 states:

Minimum size: 1/4 in. x 11/2 in. x 28 in.(6.4 mm x 38.1 mm x 711 mm) including 2-in.(50.8-mm) long, 90-degree bend at each end to form a U or Z shape.

However, Figure CC-1.9-3 indicates a 24 inch long z bar.

Has anyone picked up on this? Seems like a 28 inch anchor wouldnt work very well with 8 inch block.

So the question becomes, "do i show a 28 inch strap and comply with the code or go with a 24 inch strap and comply with the more constructible commentary?"

Thoughts?

24in + 2 x 2" = 28"?

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
