I have an enquiry for the manufacture of 4 stainless steel beams, 2.2M in length with tight tolerances in certain places. One key feature in the manufacture of the beams is that the magnetic permeability is less than 1.02 once it has been welded and heat treated. I’m am struggling to find fabricators with any experience of magnetic permeability. Can anyone advise a Stainless Steel fabricator with this type of experience.

Thanks

zinc09, see thread 1135-117830.
We use High Ni 305 SS anealed after fabrication. Perm is less than 1.01.

And you may need to use 308 or 309 weld filler. Watch out you will have very low (if not zero) ferrite in the welds making them prone to hot cracking.
If you use normal filler you will get 3-8% ferrite in the welds and have a hell of a time annealing it out.
