Magnetic gears 2

Disadvantages?
Well - to start with, they will pull any stray magnetic debris into themselves, and stop being non-contact.
Cost, perhaps.
They can slip non-destructively, which is mostly an advantage.
It seems you can get a lot of speed reduction in a small package, but there are gearsets that will also do that.
Anyway- anyone seen these in a real application?

I think that other magnetic clutch/drive is a very different animal.
This is outside of my expertise too - but the animations and sales pitch caught my eye - looks like a very cool technology.

I think that there are potential electro magnetic issues: eddy current, loss to eddy current, heating from eddy currents, interaction with electronics.

I've been following this for years check out this site I believe they are the leader in this field, Andrew French has been building these gears for at least a decade. I've been following his company for the last 4 years and he is making a lot of progress. Apparently he just finished doing some testing with NASA that went well. I wanted to use magnetic gears to make a turboshaft engine. I think it is a perfect pairing of the two technologies. Mr French also seems to believe this as the name of his company, MGT, stands for magnetic gear and turbine corporation. I see lots of uses for automotive and really anywhere else gears are used.

I forgot that they have a new website that looks a lot better, here it is: Link

I've also sketched some CVT transmissions that utilize magnetic gears and have no wearing clutch parts. The magnomatics design is pretty sweet, it would be awesome to have an ultra high speed electric motor with their design, it's power density would be huge and it would be great for racing. Combine that with a lithium air batteries and you got something that can power a cargo plane for as far or further than a conventional ICE plane.
