Magnet

I'm working on a project that requires a hand held magnetic that can be easily turned on and off. Does any one have any suggestions as to where I can find such a magnet.

Another option is to use a permament magnetic, however I will need a guard so that magnetic fields are shielded. The guard must be easy to remove without difficulty.

The only way to turn off a permanent magnet is either to short circuit it with a piece of iron (and a force will be required to withdraw it) or to shield it, at least in the direction of interest, with an iron sheet.
Otherwise an electromagnet seems to be able to do what you want, but you should specify more (geometry, force, distance,...) to find a specific product.

Hi This is Chams from Magnetic Solutions,
The only way to turn off a permanent magnet is to use two
Halbach cylinders, one inside the other. The 2 HC produce the same magnetic field B . The out side cylinder turn aroud the inside one to change the magnetic field from 0 T to the maximum field 2B.
