I am a mechanical engineer working in the ultrasound industry. I am searching for TPX material (Methylpentene Copolymer) because of it's inherent sono-translucence quality (ultrasound passes through with little attenuation). My proposed method of fabrication is by machining rather than injection molding because of short run production. I prefer a dark-dark smoke color or opaque black. Might a person have a source for this material or better yet have experience machining this material?

Thank you in advance for your kind reply!

Have you contacted Mitsui. They may be able to provide semi finished stock or recommend someone who can.

I believe it is actually in short supply with Mitsui not being able to meet demand.

I believe Mitsui is the only manufacturer.

My information is now a few years old so it may have changed.

It is an expensive exotic material and probably is not available as semi finished goods in any colour, but clear is your best bet.

To my knowledge it is straight up Poly Methyl Pentene, not a co-polymer.
