Is this a bad idea or do I just use the NDS end grain factor? Have a contractor supporting one flange of a hanger by nailing into the end of an LVL.

I avoid end grain nailing always, but especially in LVL's. Too easy to separate the wood from what I've seen. Can you use a top flange hanger instead?

Most of us rely on end nails for some things such as typical stud to wall plate, header to king stud, etc. But yeah, I don't rely on them for gravity loads.

Thanks for the info
