Hi,

I'm looking for a correlation or a formula to calculate the Lower Heating Value (LHV) of a liquid mixture. Any idea?

Thanks

The liquid is Fuel Oil.

You can use values for each individual component and sum then on either a volume, mass or molar basis (depending on your table values).

Best regards

A general formula for a pure hydrocarbon would be:

LHV = 8080 c + 28600 h......kcal/kg

where c and h are mass fractions of carbon and hydrogen, respectively.

A fuel of venezuelan origin (Oficina) some 60 years ago had the following values:

oAPI Mol. weight c h s LHV

10.9 ~380 0.855 0.116 0.018 9665
9.6 ~390 0.858 0.114 0.018 9630
8.0 ~415 0.861 0.110 0.019 9590

s is for sulfur.

These LHV may serve you as indicative values.
