I am trying to simulate 2D explicit impact analysis in ABAQUS. Projectile is 5.5mm rigid ball AISI 52100. I have defined point mass of Projectile equal to 0.00068 kg at reference point. Initial velocity 600 m/s. I have defined Surface-to-Surface (explicit) penalty contact penalty method between projectile and target.
With the conditions mentioned above, KE = 0.5mv^2, it should be about 122J. But when I run simulation, in the monitor window it shows total energy about 122J but kinetic energy around 51J. If I calculate back mass of projectile from KE, it is 0.000278kg instead of 0.00068kg. Also I am not getting desired results.
What could be possible reason for that? Is it something I should worry about and how to solve this problem?
