Low Permeability Material

Hi All,

I am looking for a magnetic material having a low relative permeability in the range of 10-100. I had search in the site, but no one I found.

Would you help me?

Most cast irons have low relative pereabilities, especially those with high carbon content.

Also, Alnico permanent magnets have low relative permeabilities as well.

Keep in mind, materials with low permeabilities will generally have large hysteresis losses.

It sounds like you have an interesting application. Can you describe what you have in mind?

Permeability of most material is not constant but varies with flux density. You need to specify a test method or conditions along with the Perm value.
In general, metallic material for magnetic applications are usually optimized for maximum perm., usually greater than 300 and can be many thousands. Metallic material, in the range you are interested in, are usually not magnetically characterized or controlled.
Depending on the flux density, I would suggest looking at the various grades of ferrite material.

Hi Mike and Ron,

I am working in the permanent magnet generator design.
I faced a problem in flux fringing. Utilizing the low permeability material as additional component, I hope it will solve the problem. The high permeability material will disturb the main flux.

EPCOS FTP Composite Ferrite is used in air gaps to control flux leakage if cores. Initial perm around 17.

I found the materials are used in the EMC system. Tests are needed for 50Hz application.
