Low frequency electromagnetic noise

Do you know of simple ways to measure low frequency electromagnetic noise in environment? I encountered this problem when designing some basic bioelectric transducers. I understand that sensitivity to such noises can be minimised when using differential amplifiers and 50/60Hz filters but sometimes it is usefull to compare different places by amount of such noise or locate devices that generate most of unwanted interference. Any ideas?
 
If you are concerned about noise caused by low frequency magnetic fields, there is a company that makes portable battery-powered monitors for just such an application. The company is MEDA(Macintyre Electronic Design Associates, Inc.) and the unit is the FM-300. It measures magnetic fields down to DC, and it is very good at separating the DC component(such as the earth's magnetic field) out of the readings. Their number is (703)471-1445.
 
Yup, a gaussmeter is just what you're looking for.
