Is it possible to create a loft between two sketches in an assembly to create what would look like a twisted piece of steel plate, ie a piece of 10x100mm flat streched between two faces which are not parallel,

I'm not very clear on what you are doing, but i tried making a lofted part between two plates (not parallel) and it worked. I just created a new part in assembly, made two sketches in the new part (one on each plate's face) and created a lofted solid between them. Let me know if that is what you are trying to do.

Maccas,
Give me your e-mail address and I will send you an example of one that a drafter created where I work. Bradley

Yes and definitely Yes, try out user manual example if you are in doubt.
