Locknut socket? What are they called??

One of my vendors works on a bunch of different drive shafts and housings. He is constantly running into bearing locknuts he can't get a spanner wrench on. Most of the nuts are N-07...N-11 sizes. I always just make what I need, but often times they are not very elegant, and a pain to make if you don't have a nut in your hand for fit-up. He really needs a socket to be able to reach inside another housing. Pretty much just (4) pieces of key stock welded to a piece of pipe or tubing.

I have done some searching, but can't find anything commercially available.

What would they be called, and where could I buy a set?

There are some specific devices for lock nuts used in automotive applications. A rack of them can usually be found in most truck and auto parts houses.

I have one particular locknut I have to deal with, a KM-8 or 10 if my memory is good, which requires a lot of torque and for which I had a machine shop make me a special tool using tool steel (from used up machine tools) instead of keystock and slots inside a machined out (large)nut arrangement that I cold put a big (4-3/4") socket on and drive with a 1" air drive. I have the luxury of being able to assemble all this with the shaft in question in a vise before I put the wrench torque to it.

I am always on the lookout for something to top this, but without success.

Here is source of the sockets. Not a common item but he has supplied the locknut sockets to a local steel mill and several equipment fabricators.

I talked with him over the weekend and he said you could get them for any size locknut, both US and Metric. There is some depth limitation from the end of the shaft without a special.
