What would be the best way to lock or prevent editing of a block to prevent the loss of attribute data

Create an X-ref object which in itself is a block but make sure that the external drawing has XEDIT command set to "0" to prevent tempering with the host drawing incorporating the X-ref object. Any attempt to Bind-Bind or Bind-Insert will remove the external reference in the host drawing.

now what if you have attribute info that needs to be exported and or some needs to be edited by the user and some won't, and i dont want shown.

I would have to say... CAD standards, and intellegent users. :)

I just did some upgrade training and noticed in 2007 that when a block is created you can uncheck a box and the block will be be explodable! Mabey upgarding will do the trick?

In the second item that you requested, you may, instead of an Xref drawing, want to create an attributed write block drawing to be exported.

ok your first thought was good but if the xrefed block has attributes you cannot exprot them to a file so my reason for creating blocks now wont work so maybe its not possible with the way things are see all im wanting the blocks to do is hold information on that perticular item and when needed tell me how many of these pannels and the info on each to an excell spread sheet kinda like a bom list but im going to give others this lybrary of blocks but dont want them screwing with them cause ultimately this defeates the purpose but anyways i also found that turning the attribs visibility not via the attrib setting but the visibility seting that controls the object visibility off i can some what protect my info but then i cannot export the attributes to excell but so is there away i guess im asking does anyone know

-Why is it you can't export attributes you've made invisible - AutoCAD doesn't recognize them?
-Why not just use the default attribute invisibility method, worried someone will find it, edit it and harm your data?
-Have you considered using Extended Entity data (xdata) to store your information?
-Have you considered using punctuation? If you're really looking for assistance it would help many people follow what you're trying to say.

? Dunno but now after creating a block with invisible invisible attributes and then after using the vis command to make them visable "doesnt though" now can export data. but when block is exploded invisible attributes are invisible. Imagine that? I dont understand why but now it works.
?2 yes i dont want anyone messing the data, because i want to export it and be able to use it to do calculations. Essentially im gettting someone else to unknowingly do some work for me :)
?3 no i hadnt but i also havent looked into it much can you tell me more. :)
?4 yes but i forget to do it alot my handwritting is just as bad as my typing :) i appologise for my bad grammer/punctuation

ok i found some info on Extended Entity data, but is there an easy way of attaching it. Because i dont want to have to do this to 300+ blocks that i am having to create. But then how am i going to go about extracting it, and then if i ever have to change it its another prob. But it sounds like what i may do.. If you have any info le me know.
