location of control valve 1

Hi,

are there any guidelines as to where to install the control valve in the steam line to reboiler? should it be installed in the inlet or rather in the condensate outlet line??

Any idea what the pros and cons will be??

An interesting question and one that I think all forum readers may benefit from. If you put the control valve in the steam line going to the reboiler, then you are controlling the pressure in the reboiler = pressure at which the steam will be condensing. That sets the saturated steam temperature and hence has a significant impact on the heat transfer.

If you put the control valve in the condensate outlet line, you will partially flood the reboiler. This reduces the effective area available for heat transfer, and the heat transferred is correspondingly reduced.

sometimes also economics is considered, the steam side control valve size is bigger than on condensate side.
