Load two versions Solidworks on one machine 5

I searched for an answer but do not have all day to search.

I am running SW 2007 SP4. I want to load and run SW 2008 SP 0.1 that I received last week. I know this is dooable. I want help in doing so without creating all kinds of "issues". I have received help from this forum before that was dead-on.

Any suggestions, cautions would be appreciated. I am curious about the new interface and functionality.

I'm not sure about 08 yet but I have loaded multiple versions in the past. The only trick is to uninstall older versions and then load the newest first and then next oldest etc. This seems to prevent the new version from trying to update the older version. Hope this helps.

I have SW2005, SW2006, SW2007 and SW2008 installed on one machine in that order with no problems. Just follow CBL's link and you should be Okay.

If yours is a stand-alone install, no worries.
If yours is a networked install and you're using PDMWorks, use caution. SW will want to update the vault.

Thanks for the tip. I have a stand-alone machine. I believe I still need to isolate , Toolbox and Template files outside of of SW 2007 SP 4.0. Is this correct?

You'll want your toolbox files separate, but your template files will be fine, so long as you don't save them as '08. There shouldn't be any need to do so and it would have to be a completely deliberate move to do so, so no worries there.

Any files which have been customised should be saved outside of the SW install folder and linked to via Tools > Options System Options > File Locationsb/b]. When upgrading, I always make separate copies of everything customised for each version ... just to be extra safe. Just personal preference.

Great advice. I have had several "computer" issues the past year resulting in the purchase of two new systems. This is my concern. Seems as though robustness is dwindling.

I always have to run multiple version on my machines. I just install them in new directories. If your running an SNL you can install the latest on your machine, but it won't work until you install the latest SNL manager along with the new License file. Then you can use both SW07 and SW08.

Its totally do able and its easy to do. Just follow the process of installing everything to a new directory and it will be fine.
