I am in the process of using Excel to convert a model from Digsilent into SKM Power Tools.

I am relatively new to both these programs and need assistance in obtaining the single line diagram in PTW format from the text file exported from Digsilent. I also need advice with the connections of the elements for the text file for PTW.

Any advice and assistance would be greatly appreciated! Especially if there is a template available for this conversion.

Step-by-step procedure:

1. Take Digsilent one-line and data.

2. Manually re-enter all data into SKM PowerTools.

Maybe someone will surprise me with an automatic conversion routine, but I would never trust it anyway.

There was an attempt many years ago to come up with a standard data exchange format for analysis software, but it never went anywhere.

You can also ask SKM if they have a "translator"

I would advice checking carefully afterward. For small system, dpc method is by far the more reliable.

We had success exchanging data using MultiSpeak Format (the standard data exchange mentioned by dpc I think). Very useful when converting distribution network with geographical information.
For industrial type of installations redoing it by hand is usually faster.

PTW will import data from Excel in .csv format. You will thus need to get Digsilent to export its data to Excel in .csv format as well. You will require some assistance from Digsilent as to how it exports it's data. This is a critical part of the process.

You will then need to write an Excel macro to convert from the Digsilent .csv format to the PTW one.

I did something like this a few months ago converting from ERACS to PTW and it worked quite well.

Once the data is imported into PTW, you will need to build the SLD one bus at a time using the EXPAND function in PTW. Creating a SLD with all the components in one go creates a big garbled mess.

Good luck!
