Load combinations for pile design per NBC 2005

It is a structural question, but very much geotechnical related.

In the previous strutural designs, we used two sets of load combinations - Working Stress Design load combinations (the results were used to choose piles based on the allowable capacities of soils), and LRFD load combinations for structural design (for Ultimate Limit States).

In NBC 2005 (National Building Code of Canada 2005)WSD is completely gone, and I don't see guidance about how to combine the loads to be checked against the geotechnical capacities, while geotechnial consultants keep giving allowable loads.

I guess this is a big question for the new bldg code.

Confirm with your geotech that Ultimate is 1.5 times the Allowable.
