Lithium Ion 18650 current

Hey Guys,

I have a drill with LI batteries. They are 18650's @ 1500mah. I have 18650's @ 2400mah salvaged from a laptop battery. I soldiered them in my drill battery case and charged the battery. It works great. Just as long as I pull the trigger slowly from slow speed to fast speed it's perfect. However, pull the trigger fast, asking the drill to go full speed, "uh NO! I can't and I won't."

Does it have anything to do with the difference in mAH rating? The originals are 1500mAh, the ones from the laptop are 2400mAh. it's like the battery cells wont deliver high current at a fast rate. But, they will deliver the high current if you ask nicely. I assumed that using the hight 2400mAh rated cells would be better. But, assuming gets me into trouble.

Just because a battery has the same, or even higher, Ah rating does NOT mean that they will perform identically in different applications. A laptop battery is used under the presumption of a relatively low current load, while a drill battery is not. It would be same as asking a flashlight battery to run well in a radio-controlled racing car. It's why there are deep-cycle batteries and other batteries.
